Development

Zoology

The department was established in 1970. Since then Department has been in the pursuit of excellence in academic and non academic arenas. The Department offer B.Sc and M.Sc  programmes, affiliated to University of Calicut. B.Sc was introduced in 1970 and M.Sc in 1982 with specialization in Fisheries.  The complementary courses are Chemistry and Botany. Reproductive Health and Sex Education is the Open course selected by the Department for the fifth semester students. The elective paper for our UG programme is Aquaculture, Animal Husbandry and Poultry Science, which offers ample opportunity of higher education as Fisheries is one of the special papers for PG Programmes offered by various Universities in and outside Kerala. The main strength is the team of dedicated faculty, with Dr. Remya V.K as the Head of the Department, who are always ready to work for the progress of student community. Currently, the department has a major research project funded by DST-SERB under POWER Scheme II with Dr. Simi.S as the Principal Investigator. All the faculty members have research papers in peer reviewed journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. Dr. Binitha V.S and Dr. Nithya Sathiandran are recognized as Ph.D guides.  Innovative teaching techniques including ICT enabled teaching, field visits, discussions, seminars, workshops etc are adopted to ensure the highest level of learning. A multitude of curricular and extra curricular activities are being taken by the department to ensure the all round development of students. The department also receive fund from DST-FIST, RUSA and DBT under the STAR scheme.
